While I’m stuck in the house this Thursday, hiding out from Hurricane Matthew, I thought I would share with you all something that I’ve received lots of questions about. My everyday makeup routine. I’ve always taken this seriously, not because I like to load on the makeup, but because of two things. Firstly, I believe it’s important to look put together and look like your best self everyday. Even though I work from home, I still wakeup everyday and get dressed and put my everyday makeup on. Secondly, I’ve mentioned a hundred times on my blog that I have ridiculously sensitive skin-so anything I’m wearing on my face everyday has to be the best and tried-and-true.
Today I’m going to show you the products I use and really believe in to give me a fresh and put-together look everyday.
Step #1: Moisturizer
I like to use this Day & Night Cream on a clean face right before bed, focusing on my neck and underneath my eyes. Then in the morning I use this Face Serum all over my face before putting on my makeup. I’ve also used Ultra Repair Cream which is great. It’s a little less thick and is a bit more budget friendly. However, if you can spare the extra $22, go for this Day & Night Cream. It will always be my favorite and a little goes a long way.
Step #2: SPF CC Cream or Liquid Makeup w/ SPF
My two go-to options right now are this 50+ SPF CC Cream and this Liquid Makeup. Now, I wish I didn’t love the Liquid Makeup so much because it doesn’t have SPF. However, it goes on so smoothly that it’s worth just putting a little face sunscreen before. And yes, even if I stay at home all day, I still wear some form of SPF. As for the 50+SPF CC Cream, I’ve been using this for about two weeks and I’m hooked. I love how easy it glides on and feels weightless. My last option I use when I’m looking for a sturdy coverage, but not yet foundation, is the One & Done. I will say the consistency of this one isn’t my favorite to work with when putting it on. However, once blended it does look nice on the skin.
Step #3: Mascara
YES. Perhaps my favorite step. I’m a mascara junkie-I must have close to 15 mascaras in my makeup bags at any given time. However, I have four favorites that I swear by and wear consistently. As you’ll notice, I don’t really use drugstore mascara. This Covergirl Mascara is the only one I think does it’s job. However, I only like it for everyday use. When it comes to evening or even going out during the day, I will either use it in conjunction with another mascara or stick to They’re Real Mascara.
Step #4: Under-Eye Brightener
An everyday essential in my books. As I mentioned, the main reason why I enjoy putting makeup on, even if it’s only a bit, is to make myself look put together and feel awake and fresh. And that’s exactly what all of these eye brighteners do. Since I don’t have prominent eye circles, I enjoy just a bit of brightness and glow. However, all three of these products I have linked above are buildable, so they will work for most darkness under eyes. My current everyday one is the Eyelift in a Tube and I can’t say enough good things about it. I love that it has two sides, one to conceal and one to brighten. Best part, no creases!
Step #5: Powder
This isn’t really an everyday step for me. However, if I’ve done all of the above (steps 1-4) and I get a call from my BFF to meet up for happy hour or decide to grab dinner out with my fiancé, a quick swipe of powder helps blend everything again and give a finish look quickly. I had to stop using the loose powder I have been using for 4+ because I recently realized I was allergic to it. (Welcome to my world of uber sensitive skin!). So now I’m using this Amazonian Clay Loose Powder. I would highly recommend it considering it’s free of all those terrible chemicals and it’s all-natural. It adds a great flush of color too, so I would actually recommend going a shade down. Another favorite loose powder of mine is the Velvet Powder. Goes on wonderfully smooth.
P.S. Are you using the right brushes? You can have the perfect makeup for your skin, but if your brushes are subpar than you’ll never receive the full benefit from your products! I’ve lived and learned that 😉
Here are my favorite brush sets. I’ve tried brushes from each of these sets and would highly recommend.
