Juts in time for Valentine’s Day, I bring you this St. Augustine Distillery Spicy Grapefruit and Gin Cocktail. If you didn’t already guess, it’s made with St. Augustine Distillery’s New World Gin, which is in my opinion just as fragrant but not as potent as common gin. Which means I like it, a lot.
St. Augustine Distillery Spicy Grapefruit and Gin Cocktail
- 3.5 ounces freshly–squeezed grapefruit juice
- 2 ounces cayenne pepper simple syrup
- handful of grapefruit slices
- 3 ounces tonic water
- 4.5 ounces St. Augustine Distillery’s New World Gin
For cayenne pepper simple syrup:
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add 1 cup of sugar to the boiling water. Reduce heat slightly. Continuously stir until all dissolved. Stir in 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper. (If your spicy tolerance is on the lower end, go for 1/2 tablespoon). Once mixed in, pour into bowl, cover and place in fridge for hour.
Place a couple of small grapefruit slices on the bottom of your serving glasses and pour in desired amount of cayenne pepper simple syrup. I recommend 1- 1 1/2 ounces in each. Allow the flavors to fuse for about five minutes. (The longer the better and eating the grapefruit slices with infused cayenne spice once you’re done with your drink will taste AMAZING. So if you can wait like 10 minutes, that would be even better.)
In a cocktail shaker, pour in gin, freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice and ice. Shake for 30 sec, or until the entire cocktail shaker is covered in condensation. Pour evenly into two serving glasses. Top off each drink with 1.5 ounces of tonic water and give each a gentle stir.
This drink is sweet with a little kick. Just like any good love story 😉
