I’m never really able to share much of a winter skincare & makeup routine, since I live in Miami and the difference in weather when seasons change is very minimal. However, after going on a couple cold-weather trips every year for the past several years I’ve mastered what works for my skin in the cold as far as skincare and how I like to apply my makeup too.
Winter Skincare & Makeup Routine
Moisturizing is key! Especially with skin used to Miami’s humidity, whenever I visit somewhere with a dry climate I notice a change in my skin immediately. Come to think of it, this routine is the same one I use when I visit places like Colorado or California during the summer, where it’s not cold, but the dry air is rough on my skin. Here is how I avoid dry skin:
Moisturize/Hydrate
Night:
I’ve been using this oil for over 6 years and it remains one of my favorite nighttime oils. Everything from the calming, herbal scent to the way it makes my skin feel hydrated but not oily.
Morning:
I don’t how this product that is so thick and rich doesn’t clog my pores and break me out (sensitive skin here) but it’s magic. For daytime wear, I apply the tiniest bit all over my face. If I use this in the evening before bed, I apply a more generous amount.
Throughout the day:
I love a mineral water spray. I use them while at home too, but find them particularly refreshing for my skin during travel and when in very cold and dry weather.
As we all know, it’s easier to get sunburnt in cool or cold weather, because we’re not feeling the heat of the sun as much. Add snow surrounding you to the mix with it’s sun-reflecting properties, it’s that much more important to protect your skin.
Sun Protection
Face:
My favorite SPF ever. I’ve been using it for many, many years. Lightweight, hydrating and makeup glides on top perfectly.
Lips:
These SPF lip products were such good finds, I started using them last year and bring them with me on summer trips too.
Throughout the day:
I love that this is such an awesome 2 in 1 product and it’s a perfect small size to keep in any bag.
For my makeup, I like it to stick to my simple routine, but apply a brighter blush more heavily-handed to lean into that snowbunny look of flushed cheeks 😊
