Shopping Your Closet Tip #1

Welcome to a new series of posts: Shopping Your Closet Tips. It’s an essential little skill to have so that we’re not always buying new clothing and shoes weekly. Understanding all of the ways to make your already-existing wardrobe feel fresh by reinventing looks you’d normally feel compelled to go out and buy will save money, time and waste. The more I shop my closet, the more I’m able to invest in top quality pieces, understand what pieces to shop that I will get the most wear from and allow me to have more fun shopping for and even splurge on more unique and bold pieces for events or special moments, because I’m more in tune with my everyday wardrobe.

Shopping Your Closet Tip #1

There is a reason monochrome outfits are always in style and on trend. They are timeless, appear effortless and cool, and are the easiest look to put together. Today’s Shopping Your Closet Tip #1 is reach for same-color pieces you already own to create different monochrome outfits.

SHOP MY LOOK

The easiest place to start with this tip is with the neutrals in your closet: black, white, grey and beige. Grab everything in a specific color (can even be a specific color scheme) such as a top, jacket, pants, shorts, skirts, shoes etc. and see how many outfits you can put together from pieces already in your closet with just one color. A great thing about dressing monochromatically too is that it makes repeat outfits less noticeable. A win, win.

Today’s look is the monochrome outfit of all monochrome outfits, the all black outfit. An outfit that looks chic on everyone, all year long.

I’m pretty obsessed with my boots. I had been eyeing them for sometime and finally bought them a few months back and have since had zero regrets as they’re as comfy as they are cool. They’re also on sale now! Here and here.

My faux leather jacket is a piece I’ve had for some time now and whenever I remember I paid under $100 for it and it still looks and feels great years later I’m happy I didn’t splurge on too pricey of a faux leather jacket. It’s available in petite and regular sizing.
